A safety device to prevent drivers from falling asleep based on a seat sensor

A new innovative solution to try to keep drivers from falling asleep at the wheel, based on a sensor placed in the seat that can warn the driver when he is about to fall asleep. The device It works by detecting the signals of the heart when you are losing alertness due to fatigue.

The invention has been developed by a technical team of the University of Nottingham Trent. The sensor system is able to send a warning to the driver asking to stop. If the driver ignores the warning, the system can activate passive safety systems such as the lane change warning system and even notify a nearby traffic control center.

The capacitive sensors are able to measure cardiac signals. The challenge lies in improving the reliability of the system and interpreting the data generated by the sensors. You need electronic systems capable of detecting heart signals and that can be easily installed inside the seats.
